This is a story about how "high-grade alcohols" are
made from "oils and fats."
The phrase "high-grade alcohols" does not refer to expensive
alcoholic drinks such as cognac and brandy.
The alcohol in liquor is ethanol which is one of the "low-grade
alcohols," regardless of how expensive the drink is.
"High-grade alcohols" is the general name for all alcohols
with a carbon number of 6 or more. Such alcohols are used as raw
materials in cosmetics, shampoos, rinses, laundry detergents, and
kitchen detergents, as well as for many other industrial purposes.
In particular the oils and fats obtained from plants are
raw materials which can be recycled as long as there is sun, earth,
and water available, are both people- and Earth-friendly, and generate
relatively little pollution.
The Oleo Chemicals Department handles raw materials made
from these oils and fats in the toiletries and cosmetics sector
and in other industrial sectors.
